Prior to 1712 Friends of New Garden had travelled the seven miles to Old Kennett Meeting House twice weekly to worship. After 1712 the Friends began meeting at the home of John Miller. He had intended to donate land for the construction of a Meeting House but died in 1713 before that was accomplished. His son, James Miller, carried out his father's wishes and donated six acres of land for this purpose. A Log Meeting House was built and the first service was held in the fall of 1715.

In 1743, having outgrown the Log Meeting House, the present Brick Meeting House was constructed.

Note the Brick Yard a few hundred yards to the east on Bucktoe Rd. Although this map was made 117 years after the construction of the southern portion of the Meeting House, it does suggest that the bricks were probably local.

As a result of the Rt 41 Bypass project, the New Garden Meeting House was declared Ineligible for the National Historic Register. In the opinion of PHMC it is not historically or architecturally significant and has suffered a loss of integrity.
