Dear Mr. Friel:

We are writing to you to express our concern of the proposed demolition of the David Brown House.

We are delighted by the success you have enjoyed which is being highlighted by your need to expand. We are proud to have so many quality and established businesses in Chester County.

However, we have a deep appreciation for the history of Chester County. We promote our heritage in publications, in our open Space Program, and through the many municipal historical commissions and trusts who work very hard to preserve the past for visitors and future generations.

The David Brown House is a recognized piece of New Garden Township history and that small piece of history is then woven into the large tapestry of the history of Chester County. By removing a part of that tapestry, we are left with damage that cannot be repaired or replaced.

We know that you have an obligation to your business and the people you employ. We, however, have an obligation to over 400,000 Chester County residents to respect and maintain the historic sites that are reminders of our roots, our past, our heritage.

The historic places that we preserve are not just tourist attractions. These valuable buildings and lands serve to educate and inform and become descriptive paragraphs in the story of the county.

We strongly encourage you to seek alternatives to the demolition of the David Brown House. The house may be "historically inconsequential" to Edgecraft, but to many more people, it is a unique and irreplaceable part of American history.

Sincerely,
